Greetings all,

A few members have asked in the past that don't have access to Adobe Photoshop; what's another graphics software I can use in designing t-shirts?
A very popular one that’s available for both PC and MAC and is FREE is called GIMP. GIMP ver. 2.8 is a raster image editing software similar to the functions available in Adobe Photoshop.
Here are the important steps to set up and save your artwork design file for use with Tshirtgang.

1) Create a New File with the following file specifications:

Image Size Dimensions:
Width: 12 inches (2400 pixels)
Height: 15 inches (3000 pixeles)

Print Orientation: Portrait
Advanced Options:
X Resolution: 200.000
Y Resolution: 200.000
Unit: pixels/inch

Color Space: RGB Color
Fill With: Transparency

2) Here’s How Your GIMP Workspace will look like:

3) Here’s a quick image I just did to illustrate the space you have to work with.

4) Have your artwork on all layers saved together. Use the Top menu Image > Merge Visible Layers

5) When you’re happy with your final design you can trim off the excess space. This helps reduce your file size when you’re ready to upload. Click on top menu bar Image > Autocrop Image.

6) Save your file using File > Export and select file type PNG and click ok

7) You’ll then see a File Options Menu for PNG. Be sure to check the boxes for:
-Save Resolution –Save Color Values From Transparent Pixels

You now have a T shirt design ready PNG file that can be used for Tshirtgang to upload using the Tshirt Upload Wizard. To learn more about installing and using GIMP be sure to visit http://www.gimp.org/ for more information.

Happy Designing & Selling :)

I saw in the Photoshop setup, you recommend the AppleRGB color profile. Do recommend that profile for GIMP?

You can download the ICC file from Adobe:

Yes you can install AppleRGB under Image > Mode > Assign Color Profile then Select Profile From Disk from where you saved the ICC file. Then click assigned.

Thanks for the guide. Much appreciated.

Shouldn't you do step 5 before step 4?
